Michel McNabb, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio now residing in Madrid, Spàin showed an affinity for making jewelry from a very early age. She would make rings and bracelets out of bubble gum wrappers and colored telephone wires for friends and family. Michel received a fine arts degree from Denison University, specializing in printmaking.
Her passion for jewelry was rediscovered after finding a wax model that was made when she was 17. She had it cast and has been working in the medium ever since. Each piece of jewelry is carefully carved by hand in wax. Her jewelry is like little wearable sculptures.
Michel´s inspiration comes from the things around her. Her other passion is riding horses, whose beauty and power are a common theme for her work. She has two little boys that keep her busy and add a more playful side to her jewelry as well as her life.
Her work can be found in boutiques both in the U.S. and in Europe as well as several catalogs.
¨I love jewelry and always have. I lose myself in museums, studying the detail in jewelry from different civilizations. This is when I feel so inspired that I can´t wait to get back to my studio to create. The techniques of the ancient masters inspire me. I like the fact that each piece took so much time to create. Those creations last centuries and immortalize cultures. When I make a piece of jewelry I think about making something that will last much longer than I will.¨
